LO2: A Chorus Line Rehearsal Reflection Week 7
⭐A CHORUS LINE ⭐
Rehearsal Reflection - Week 7
Tuesday 22nd
For this rehearsal the aim to continue with “One Rehearsal” and learn the tap combination that happens directly after “One Rehearsal”. We continued with “One Rehearsal” by refining some of the steps and going over them as we were still struggling with the choreography that happens when we are all facing the back dancin. Our biggest challenge is the counts and making sure we are doing the right movements on the right set of counts. The key thing we did this lesson was repetition. Repeating the steps over and over again is really beneficial for us to build up our muscle memory. Knowing these steps and the order they come in off-by-heart will allow us to focus on counting. Once we got to a good place, we moved onto the tap combination for the next number, “Tap Dance”. The combination covers all the basics in Tap. This is because majority of the Year 12’s have never tapped before. My class studied tap in Year 12 so we are all very familiar with the steps. We knew what they were and were able to do them but the challenge was with the speed of the sequence. Part of the combination is very fast and hard to keep up with at times. We just need to be conscious of the fact that these steps happen quickly. A key aspect of Tap is that we need to be fully relaxed, especially our ankles and feet, as this will help us to be able to do the steps faster. We continued to work on the tap combination until we were in a good place.
- Skills: Tap combination

The aim of this rehearsal was to work on the end of Act 2 until the finale. We went from the end of "One Rehearsal" and worked into "Tap Dance". We learnt the Tap combination in Wednesdays rehearsal so now we are ready to run the whole number. We then did a run-through from the Tap number into the "Alternatives" scene. It was a little stop-start as we are still in the process of learning lines. I have mine fully learnt for this scene so I was pretty confident with what I was saying. As I was confident with my lines and their cues, I was able to act and have stronger characterisation as I wasn't reading from my script. This scene is meant to flow from line to the next but as people weren't sure of lines, the flow of the scene if disrupted. This scene has no visuals other than us on stage so it's important that this scene flows as we don't want to bore the audience. I thought I did well with my characterisation and reacting. I will be able to characterise better and push it further as I grow even more confident with my lines.
After this run, we went into our next rehearsal which was our singing rehearsal. For this rehearsal, we had a sitzprobe. This means that we are all sat and we just sing through all the songs within the show starting from the beginning of Act 1 up until the end of the show's finale. This was really good for us to do as it will make it clear what harmony parts of vocal lines that need to be cleaned up before the show. As a whole it went really well, there was a couple harmonies that needed sorting. One of them was the end harmony for "At the Ballet" and a couple of the Montage harmonies. We hadn't yet learnt both of the "One's" so we missed them out. We also hadn't yet gone through the harmonies for "What I Did For Love" yet either so we missed these ones out. Once we ran through the songs, we went onto learning our harmony parts for "One Bows". I am on the alto harmony for this song. The harmony is really tricky to get into as we are so used to singing the original now as we do throughout "One Rehearsal". We just need to keep going over it with the track so that it becomes natural to us so that we don't have to think about it so much.
- Skills: Line leaning, Characterisation ("Alternatives"), general vocal harmonies
- Areas For Development: "One Bows" Harmony, Reacting
